To mark the beginning of the Fight Against Love Scam Project, a kick-off meeting was held between EUth Wonders and its project partners, European Center for Researching, Education, and Consulting and Igor Vitale International, on 9 November 2024. The purpose of this meeting was for partners to come together to discuss and plan the project’s activities and deliverable goals within its two year timeline from November 2024 to August 2026.

About the Project

The Fight Against Love Scam Project was created to protect and empower people aged 50 and above against fraudulent online romance scams, as seniors are particularly vulnerable to them. By providing knowledge through training and resources about the tactics, platforms, and psychological manipulations used by scammers, the project equips seniors with the skills they need to recognize threats and stay safe online. It also addresses the stigma surrounding vulnerabilities many seniors face, such as loneliness or embarrassment, and to create an open, supportive environment for discussion and learning.

EUth Wonders and its partners aim to support educators and other community members in addition to seniors by providing accessible resources, such as online courses, guidebooks/manuals, and tailored resources. Through international meetings, educational resources, and practical training, the project’s overall goal is to raise awareness, build resilience, and strengthen the connection between seniors, educators, and their wider communities in order to ensure that they feel more empowered to navigate the digital world safely and that fewer people fall victim to love scams.

meeting TAKEAWAYS AND THE ROAD AHEAD

The kick-off meeting was the first event of the Fight Against Love Scam Project, which gave EUth Wonders and its partners a vital platform to discuss and finalize the plan for the project’s upcoming activities. In addition to planning, the meeting provided a valuable opportunity for project partners to give feedback and assess the quality, relevance, and impact of the project. The discussions also allowed everyone to lay out the best collaborative approach for the project’s key deliverables: the manual guidebooks, digital course, and tailored resources.

Most importantly, the meeting marked a powerful beginning to Fight Against Love Scam Project and the dedicated collaboration and shared commitment between the project’s partnering organizations to protect seniors and the wider community from love scams through education, awareness, stigma-free discussions, and empowerment.

Stay tuned for updates on the project’s manual guidebooks and online course!
