On August 25–26, we had the pleasure of hosting our Fight Against Love Scam organizational meeting and community workshop in Bonn, Germany. The event brought together our valued partners, Igor Vitale International and the European Center for Researching, Education, and Consulting, to align our efforts in protecting older adults from online romance scams.

Strengthening Our Project Together

The first day was dedicated to organizational alignment. Together with our partners, we discussed the development of our project manual and digital course, ensuring that both tools are practical, accessible, and impactful for seniors and the educators who support them. We also coordinated on dissemination strategies, partnership synergy, and how best to bring our resources into communities across Europe.

A Workshop for the Community

On the second day, we opened our doors to the community for a public workshop. The session focused on how to effectively communicate with elders about the dangers of online love scams, a sensitive but critical conversation. Participants gained insights into the psychological tactics scammers use and strategies for fostering open, stigma-free discussions with seniors.

About the Love Scam Project

The Love Scam Project is dedicated to protecting and empowering people aged 50 and above against fraudulent online romance scams. It tackles the issue from multiple perspectives: digital readiness, media literacy, and mental health, to ensure a holistic and sustainable impact.

  • For seniors, it provides accessible knowledge about online safety and resilience against scams.

  • For educators, it offers a comprehensive handbook, enabling them to guide older learners with confidence and empathy.

  • For communities, it creates safe spaces for dialogue, breaking down the stigma of loneliness or embarrassment often tied to falling victim to scams.

Through online courses, guidebooks, and tailored resources, the project works to reduce vulnerability, strengthen digital resilience, and build bridges between generations.

Looking Ahead

The Bonn meeting was a strong step forward in aligning our partnership and directly engaging the public. We are excited to continue building tools that not only protect seniors but also empower families, educators, and communities to stand together against love scams.

Stay tuned for updates on the release of our manual and digital course!
