On 6–7 June 2026, young participants from Germany, Ireland, Malta, Spain, and Greece gathered in Bonn for the EUnited Piloting Mobility, an exciting opportunity to explore how digital storytelling can be used to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and amplify the voices of North African migrants that are too often left unheard.

The mobility formed part of the Erasmus+ project EUnited – Engaging Young Migrants from North Africa in Participative Video and Storytelling to Share Their Narratives, a project dedicated to supporting social inclusion, intercultural dialogue, and digital empowerment through creative storytelling methods.
Over two days, participants stepped into the role of storytellers, photographers, advocates, and changemakers, discovering how personal stories can become powerful tools for creating understanding and social impact.
Building the Foundations of Digital Storytelling

The mobility began with interactive workshops introducing participants to the world of digital storytelling. Through discussions, exercises, and examples, participants explored what makes a story impactful and how digital media can be used to communicate experiences, emotions, and social issues.
Together, they examined the role storytelling plays in shaping public perception and learned how personal narratives can challenge migrant stereotypes, build empathy, and encourage meaningful dialogue between communities.
From Ideas to Impact: The EUnited Storytelling Challenge

Participants then took part in a dynamic Shark Tank-style activity, where international teams developed creative proposals demonstrating how digital storytelling could be used to raise awareness about social and cultural issues faced by North African migrants and create positive change.
Working collaboratively, the groups identified challenges together and designed storytelling campaigns aimed at increasing visibility, promoting understanding, and inspiring action. The activity encouraged participants to think creatively while considering how media can be used responsibly and effectively to influence society.
The presentations sparked discussions and showcased the innovative ideas that emerge when young people from different countries work together toward a common goal.
Human Rights in Action: Learning from Amnesty International

A special highlight of the mobility was an information session delivered by representatives from the local chapter of Amnesty International.
Participants learned about the organization's work promoting and protecting human rights around the world and explored how storytelling, advocacy, and public awareness campaigns can contribute to social change. The session provided valuable insights into the relationship between personal narratives and human rights activism, reinforcing the importance of ensuring that marginalized voices are heard.
The discussion encouraged participants to reflect on the responsibility that comes with sharing stories and the potential of storytelling to support inclusion, dignity, and social justice.
Seeing Bonn Through New Eyes: A PhotoVoice Journey

Building on the skills developed during the workshops, participants were introduced to the PhotoVoice methodology through a practical photography workshop.
Armed with cameras and smartphones, participants set out on a PhotoVoice tour through Bonn, capturing images that reflected themes such as identity, community, belonging, diversity, and inclusion for North African migrants in the city.

The activity encouraged observation, reflection, and creativity while demonstrating how photography can be used as a tool for self-expression and social commentary.
Stories Behind the Lens

The mobility culminated in participant presentations showcasing the PhotoVoice outputs created during the tour.
Each participant shared the photographs they had taken and explained the stories, emotions, and messages behind their images. The presentations revealed a wide range of perspectives and interpretations, highlighting how a single environment can inspire very different narratives depending on the experiences and viewpoints of the storyteller.

The session provided a powerful reminder that every image tells a story and that every story deserves to be heard.
Building Connections Across Europe

The mobility also offered participants the opportunity to build friendships and connections across cultures. Through teamwork, informal discussions, and shared experiences, participants developed a deeper understanding of one another's individual backgrounds and perspectives.
This mobility demonstrated the power of non-formal education to bring people together, encourage dialogue, and create meaningful learning experiences that extend far beyond the classroom.

As the project continues, the feedback and experiences gathered during the piloting phase will help strengthen the EUnited methodology and ensure that future participants are equipped with the tools, confidence, and skills needed to share their own stories with the world.
We would like to thank all participants for their enthusiasm, creativity, and openness throughout the mobility. Their ideas, reflections, and contributions made the event a memorable and inspiring experience for everyone involved.
Stay tuned for more updates from EUnited as we continue working toward a more inclusive and connected Europe through the power of storytelling.
